Commemoration Ceremony of the Holy City of Mashhad as the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World

The one-day seminar for commemorating Mashhad as the cultural capital of the Islamic world due to the invitation of the Iranian Cultural Center was held in the cultural center hall in Kuwait on the occasion of thirty-eighth anniversary of the Islamic Revolution with the cooperation of Iran and Kuwait friendship association, attended by a large number of cultural elites, as well as social and academic figures.

According to the news headquarters of Islamic cultural capital-Mashhad 2017,In the ceremony of commemoration of the Islamic Revolution, Dr. Alireza Enayati, our ambassador in Kuwait, welcomed the participating Arab intellectuals, expressing: this is an auspicious occasion. Today, we celebrate the selection of the holy city of Mashhad as the cultural capital of the Islamic world in the presence of you thinkers and scholars of Arabic countries.

He continued: selection of Mashhad as the cultural capital of the Islamic world by Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) is due to the proud history of this city, from which many intellects and elites have been raised and the same scientists founded the cornerstone of glorious Islamic civilization.

Enayati added: Mashhad is the capital of the great Khorasan, which one day contained other cities, such as Samarkand, Merv, Herat, Bukhara and Nishapur, and some of the most important Sunni and Shi'a scholars were born in this region. In this regard, the majority of the scholars of Kutub al-Sittah were born in this region, who provided the most important and respected books of hadith among the Sunnis.

The ambassador of our country affirmed: today, Mashhad contains many theological seminaries and valid academic centers and is recognized as one of the cities of science production in the Islamic world. In addition, the presence of the holy shrine and many tourist attractions and welfare centers have led to the visit of more than 20 million tourists and pilgrims from all over the world.

In this ceremony, Dr. Kafieh Ramadan, the member of Iran and Kuwait friendship association and head of board of trustees of the national council for Arabic culture, while congratulating the selection of Mashhad as the cultural and spiritual capital of the Islamic world, mentioned the rich scientific history of this city and required expanded relationships between Kuwait and this holy city.

Allama Shaykh Murtada Faraj, one of the popular Allamas in Kuwait and another lecturer of this seminar, pointed out the role of Khorasan scholars in development and crystallization of Islamic civilization, and stated: the importance of Mashhad reached its peak when the honorable body of Imam Ali ibn Musa was buried in this city, which attracted many Muslims and lovers of Wilayah and Imamate to this holy city.

According to Dr. Faisal Taha, Egyptian scholar and professor of Islamic history in Egypt and Kuwait University, presented a research with the title of “the role of Khorasan scholars in Islamic civilization in the fourth and fifth centuries AD”, while explaining and reviewing the most important scientific characters of Khorasan in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, science, literature and art.

He claimed: the growth of the translation of scientific works and holding literary events and religious debates have been some of the features of this city over the past centuries.

At the end of this ceremony, Dr. Khalid Al-Saleh, a member of the association of writers and journalists in Kuwait, explained the importance of role of Mashhad and the measures taken to represent the scientific, cultural and religious capacities of this holy city at the same time of selection of this city as the cultural capital of the Islamic world.
